About Darin
My name is Darin Anderson and I grew up in Anoka, Minnesota. My father started teaching my twin brother and I how to ski at a small resort named Birch Park which does not even exist anymore. Later on, in my 20’s I moved to Vail Colorado to further pursue my passion of skiing as a ski instructor and I also got into a sport called skijoring.
Career Background
I first started ski instructing in 1993 at a small ski resort called Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minnesota. I instructed at this resort for 3 years and earned my PSIA alpine level 1 certification. I then moved to the Vail Valley and started instructing again in 2013 at Vail and then transferred to Beaver Creek. Before my injury, I was working towards my PSIA level 2 alpine certification.
Treatment Procedure and Recovery Plan
I injured my right knee and required an ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. I had surgery with Dr. Sterett at Vail Summit Orthopedics and completed about 6 months of physical therapy.
Testimonial
"I cannot eloquently express the gratitude that I have for the Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation. The Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation has been an absolute beacon of light in a dark tunnel for me. I snapped my ACL and tore my meniscus while skiing and my new insurance company declined to cover the injury as it occurred on a ski slope. I went through many different options which all turned me down for any assistance. The Foundation literally saved my career as a ski instructor and Skijoring competitor. The Foundation staff are all great people and have been a lifesaver in my time of need. I can only hope to be able to return the favor in the future. "
