Tibia Hardware Removal
Update (1/2018): William has returned to guiding full time.

About William

I live in Chamonix France.  I have been a climber and skier from a very early age and recently became an IFMGA guide.

Career Background

I became an IFMGA mountain guide in 2016 after 4 years of training and assessment.  I work mainly in the French, Swiss and Italian Alps in summer and winter.

Treatment Procedure and Recovery Plan

I had surgery to remove a plate and screws from my tibia, which were inserted as a result of a ski fall.  I spent one day and one night in the hospital in France to remove the metal.  Shortly after the operation, I was walking again and a month later I felt more or less as good as new!

Testimonial

"To pay for the operation out of my own pocket would have made a serious impact on my year's finances and therefore climbing, skiing, and working plans. The Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation made it much easier for me to make the decision to get the metal removed early and therefore reduce damage and implications on my knee and hip from skiing and climbing for longer with the metal still in. I can't thank the foundation enough!"
